Below you'll find every live music event taking place in Sydney, all on one page.
This guide is as simple as we can practically get away with. We’ll include some occasional commentary (feel free to submit your own!) to help give you context on what can be a dizzyingly complex network of musicians, collectives, communities, and spaces, or just make sure you don’t miss out on catching your next favourite act.

Artists, managers, promoters, and venues:
Self-promo is fine — we love it when you let us know what you’ve got going on! But we won’t publish your marketing/social copy verbatim or give you special consideration in the guide. We generally don’t list cover/tribute bands or background-music sets at hospitality venues. All listings are at our own discretion. We will also graciously refuse any offer of door spots for shows where we can buy tickets.
Listen to (almost) every artist listed in the gig guide this week:

A line-up featuring "balkan infused prog, 8 bit flavoured weirdo rock and middle eastern inspired psych". A warning that the line-up represented here doesn't reflect playing times: "Who’s headlining? We don’t know. Who’s opening? We don’t know that either. Why? Thanks to recent breakthroughs in CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGY, lineup order will be determined on the night mere seconds before performance via DIGITAL ALEATORIC GENERATION to keep you on your toes."

Outrageous line-up! Do you remember Twerps? They were one of the poster acts for Melbourne's heady "dolewave" scene back in the early 2010s but, like most of their colleagues (ok, Dick Diver), disappeared without a trace without explanation. Will there be a dolewave conspiracy documentary in a decade's time? Will it feature Darren Levin (editor of one of this website's spiritual forefathers Mess+Noise) as a talking head? But I digress. One of Twerps' key members Martin Frawley has re-appeared in Free Time, who are based in New York and who appear to be touring Australia for a crop of dates. But look! Martin is ALSO doing a set with no other than living legend Dan Kelly (yes, he's related to Paul Kelly - nephew/uncle). Did you know that Dan Kelly and the Alpha Males (Dan's band) originally had Gareth Liddiard (The Drones) and Tom Carlyon (of criminally underrated Aussie band Devastations) in their line-up when they formed? Wild times. Okin Osan is the project of local Rose Chan - skuzzy, sunny power pop. And Pash is some gorgeous jangle glossiness. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.

It’s a cash-only donation at the door, with all proceeds going to Waria Crisis Centre, a shelter for trans people in crisis in Yogyakarta. Tickets for this highly anticipated gig from the hardcore punk five-piece evaporated in seconds after going on sale for the original booking at The Metro. It's clear this kind of insane demand was always expected by the bookers: Laneway clearly wanted the pent-up demand to send people in the direction of the festival, but anyone wailing to the heavens had their prayers answered: Turnstile are up for a Grammy, which means they've dropped out of Laneway to jet back to the States, and now have two mega Sydney gigs to cater to demand (the other is at the Big Top at Luna Park). The people win!

No idea who this is but it's their "first Australian shows in more than thirty years": they have a smattering of charting singles including "Nothing Ever Happens", “Kiss This Thing Goodbye”, “Always The Last To Know” and “Roll To Me”. CRJ's last tour in 2019 was one of the most anticipated pop events of recent Australian history. She'd completely skipped the continent with her instant classic E•MO•TION, and by the time she rolled around to tour Dedicated the fans were at fever pitch. And then the show was just... fine? Much the same as Dedicated is a forgettable quagmire, the show ran as a perfectly serviceable run through some well loved classics. Carly seemed oblivious to the excitement and depth of connection to her work, barely acknowledged the audience or band, and did a perfunctory run through the songs. To be honest, especially as (for the crowd) a long-anticipated Event To Be Remembered, the whole thing was completely forgettable. CRJ has returned with a new record that's definitely a step above Dedicated - let's see if she can actually deliver a connection with her fans this time.
