Brilliant to see a second instalment of this excellent initiative by Yours & Owls with Crowbar. I went to the first one with ARSE headlining - it was a really nice turnout of great humans and the bands ruled. Very exciting, very free, very good burgers.

W/ TONE GENERATOR & The Body Without Organs, MILITARY POSITION, RBRNRSE
8:00pm Crowbar
I've heard a number of self-described practitioners of EBM produce something that is very much just a synthed-up take on post-punk: very lyrical, melodic, drawing more from the lineage of Joy Division, Bauhaus and The Cure with a dash of the likes of Throbbing Gristle and Einsterzende Neubeuten. This line-up seems a bit further down the noise rabbit hole: have a listen to Military Positions, with a cascade of no-input effected blasts underneath a distorted vocal snarling over the top. Tone Generator & The Body Of Organs offer a blast of deconstructed bludgeons to the head with noise tone generators fashioned into various cuts and sweeps, with low sine waves throbbing underneath. In the blackened room of Crowbar, this might well just melt your brain in the best way possible. Want some catharsis? This might be your ticket.

Yes. Wolfmother. The actual Wolfmother. Playing at Crowbar. Just up the road from where they cut their teeth at the Annandale Hotel nearly 20 years ago. Can Stockdale still play the hits? Only one way to find out.

We never thought we'd see it happen, but they're BACK. Led by Jamie Hutchings' singular brand of songwriting - that has continued into his solo work and with his newer band Infinity Broke - and Ben Fletcher's searing Jag tones. A classic band, and we get a fleeting moment to catch them live.

Adelaide pop-punk duo, tour constantly and have a devoted following. Playing in the front bar after Magic Dirt, just around midnight.
Now then children, if you don't know who Magic Dirt are: they were 90s and 00s legends that came up through the depths of Melbourne's indie rock scene and successfully crossed over into Triple J land, this putting them on the consciousness of broader Australia. Fronted by Adalita (now with her own respectable solo career). We love The Laurels and No Cake - with the former doing a form of garage shoegaze, and the latter doing bottom-heavy yobbo rock anchored with a big fat Moog. Both bands have Kat Harley playing bass and synths respectively. No Cake also have Pete Kostic, who plays in Front End Loader and Regurgitator.

"Rockstar School aims to create a happy, healthy, resilient community through music and keep alive the Australian and Inner West tradition of rock music." That's pretty direct and to the point! This is the music school's young performers doing their annual show. I remember when I did my first one at our country town's annual performance thing. It ruled. I was hooked. Such a fucken cool experience to have as a kid. I reckon maybe it'd be worth showing up and see what incredible talent is out there - and also seeing what they're about when they talk about "[creating] a happy, healthy, resilient community through music". Family friendly! All ages!

Front bar show! Guessing that means it's free. OIL! are up from Adelaide and this caught my eye: "sounds like running as fast as you can through a field of computer chips and sonic lightning storms, drawing influences from kraut rock greats such as CAN and NEU!" - well, that's my shit right there.

IAN ROBERT KRAHE (1957-78) was punk rock pioneer at the forefront of the birth of Australian rock, before his tragic death in 1978. His dynamic, intense and irreverent approach to guitar left its mark upon the music of Evil Roomers and X and earned him a place in Australian rock history. This gig will be celebrating the life, music and legacy of Ian on the day of his 65th birthday. His music will be performed by his guitar brother Geoff Holmes (Evil Roomers, X, Wildcat Tamers, Scattered Order) and Jim Dickson (Radio Birdman, The Survivors, The Passengers, Pubert Brownfridge) and John Butler (X) as well as Ian Krahe’s nephew - Luke Alan Edwards (Slack Punks)
