Keratin are a "post-hardcore/skramz band" from Naarm/Melbourne - they feature members of To The North, Make More, Jazz Tiger, Nature Trails and Gil Cerrone. Dean from Pure Mass introduces TBX: "[they're] brand new, featuring members of all the best heavy bands in the history of Sydney and the world, incl. Canine, Thorax, Ether Rag, Pure Evil Trio, Dispossessed, Mana, NASHO and I'm sure several more"

He's been musician-in-residence at MONA in Hobart for the last few years, and has more bands to his name than you can shake a stick at: Giants of Science, The Gin Club, The Wilson Pickers, Hownowmer and The Young Liberals. Ben's playing in solo mode drawing from his considerable collection of songs. Should be a ripper.

Free gig as part of the “Inner West BBQ for the Voice to Parliament” - the BBQ’s happening at 2pm up the road at Petersham Park. Vic Simms is a total icon with a hell of a story, would love him to write a memoir sometime. His album 'The Loner' is a classic of 70s protest music if you’re not across. Def someone to catch when the chance arises, and this is a good one. Albo will be there!

Outrageous line-up! Do you remember Twerps? They were one of the poster acts for Melbourne's heady "dolewave" scene back in the early 2010s but, like most of their colleagues (ok, Dick Diver), disappeared without a trace without explanation. Will there be a dolewave conspiracy documentary in a decade's time? Will it feature Darren Levin (editor of one of this website's spiritual forefathers Mess+Noise) as a talking head? But I digress. One of Twerps' key members Martin Frawley has re-appeared in Free Time, who are based in New York and who appear to be touring Australia for a crop of dates. But look! Martin is ALSO doing a set with no other than living legend Dan Kelly (yes, he's related to Paul Kelly - nephew/uncle). Did you know that Dan Kelly and the Alpha Males (Dan's band) originally had Gareth Liddiard (The Drones) and Tom Carlyon (of criminally underrated Aussie band Devastations) in their line-up when they formed? Wild times. Okin Osan is the project of local Rose Chan - skuzzy, sunny power pop. And Pash is some gorgeous jangle glossiness. Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.

Despite being extremely sold out, we thought it fitting to acknowledge this stacked line-up (look at it!) celebrating the life of Richard ‘Millzy’ Mills, one of the co-founders of label/party collective Psyched As. All profits from ticket sales will be donated to the Bula'Bula Arts Centre in Ramingining (NT).

Album launch for the incredible Potential, releasing their album after three excellent singles that have just got me more and more pumped for the full thing. Potential play (in their own words) "weirdo dark-pop synth-wave" - great songwriting, drum machines, harmonised sax, grinding chorus bass, it's a fucking treat. Loose Fit are an incredible support, also offering bursts of sax, intensive post-punk rhythms with little elements of dub all over it - their debut record was recorded and mixed by Jonathan Boulet of Party Dozen and ARSE. And at the greatest venue in Sydney - the PBC!

Sounds Like Sunset formed in Pennant Hills in 1997. Famously, no matter how small the venue they're playing, they'll bring their full scale amp stacks and play at the volume they would if they were playing a gig at the SCG. I'm saying they're loud. Their sound draws a lot from the original wave of the UK's shoegaze influences - think Lush, Ride - but there's definitely an Australiana to it, so I'm gonna dub it "pubgaze". Key Out draws from a similar well of influences but with a little more gentleness - some lovely background vocals and textures adding a wooziness to a rock solid core guitar band sound. Their record's out on Half A Cow - it was mixed by Wayne Connolly (as was SLS' last release).

Humming Grotto is a stunning monthly series of sound art, ambient, noise and other outsider sounds - an often peaceful, sometimes intense, always mesmerising series of lineups that show off a wonderful dimension of Sydney. It's held downstairs at the PBC - so don't be alarmed if you turn up to the main room and there are toddlers running around and the ding of the bistro pass bell. Head downstairs and I guarantee that once the door closes behind you you'll be transported into another world.

Hot situation!!! The Cannanes we love. They've been around since the 80s, they do what they want, their music has been released on the USA's K Records and 555 Records, and Chapter Music locally, they're delightful live. And the Petersham Bowlo is maybe Sydney's best music venue: a simple, community space, that exists for the community, that is loved by the community, and that does a bang up stellar job of doing what it does. And really decent sound!! And family friendly! Wayne Connolly is the Australian producer of some renown - lots of big Triple J records in the 00s - and musician with bands like Knievel and The Welcome Mat. And The Night Packers are new on the scene, have a great energy and a lot of enthusiasm and we love to see it!
