This ambient/improvisational 6-piece made a notable live debut at Phoenix Central Park back in January, which was followed up last month with an impressive 24-track compilation release on the New Weird Australia label - a wonderful shout-out to the talent in this group's extended circle of creative collaborators and friends. You'll need to turn up early to this one if you want to hear the show from inside the venue.

All shows at Lazy Thinking are Pay What You Can - 100% goes to the bands and nobody is turned away for lack of funds.

SydneyMusic Social is back this week with no special guests and no plans - just good folks and good chats, burger specials from the Lazy Thinking kitchen, and an all-Eora playlist. SMS will be taking a week off next week after the long weekend, so come down for an extra-chilled one with some real ones. Because the real special guests are the friends we make along the way.

This panel discussion will be focused on a topic that's crucial to the harmony of the entire music community: safety. What makes an environment a safe space to enjoy and perform music, and how are we doing in our own community? We're excited to have sister indie duo CLEWS speaking, who inspired the topic of this panel with a recent post asking our community to consider the serious effects of underrepresentation of women in the industry, Lily is doing her PhD on gendered harms in the music industry, and the panel will also have two experienced and passionate participants of our local scene: Society Of Cutting Up Men - a noise/DIY musician from Western Sydney, and Mowgli May, a radio presenter, DJ and producer.

For our third SydneyMusic Social we're doing something a little different: turn up with a 30 minute playlist or premixed WAV file and we'll queue it up! There'll be a literal physical signup sheet on the night, so please come in on time if you'd like to play. You'll have an opportunity to introduce your mixtape, and we'll be playing it on the house PA - so playlist for maximum vibes. You can play tunes you're digging, your own demos or WIP, or anything you like - should be a lot of fun!

We were blown away by the response to our launch event - what a lovely time! Super excited to see how this evolves. Nerdie's doing a talk and Q&A, and with the way these evenings are shaping up should have one or two surprises.

Welcome to SydneyMusic Social! This is a place to meet cool people, hear new sounds, enjoy a beautiful space, and to enjoy community. We’ve leaving the format each week pretty open - maybe you'll get to hear a beatmaker preview some work-in-progress. Maybe there'll be a Q&A. Maybe we'll just chill. Or maybe we'll party! We'll tweak the vibe as we go. Every week's event is completely free with donations accepted. For this special launch event we have a couple of members of our Discord community kicking things off: Daniel Arena (of experimental rock band Spectral Gates and his new venture, remaincalm) will be showing off the audio processing software he's been working on. LOW STAKES is Tom Gilmore, operator of local label Sydney City Chiptune Ministries. Anchoring the night will be SydneyMusic DJs (SM founders Caitlin Welsh and Joe Hardy).
