Matt Ottignon Quartet: The Music of Mark Simmonds’ "Fire"

8:30pm Foundry 616

JH

Celebrating the 30 year anniversary of Mark Simmonds' "Fire". It won best the Best Jazz Album ARIA at the time of release, but according to this press release was largely forgotten until the artist's death in 2020, due to him having stopped performing in the late 90s. As reference points for the work, Matt Ottignon suggests: "Ornette Coleman’s piano-less quartet and the music of John Coltrane and Archie Shepp". Also features Jonathan Zwartz on bass.
